El trabajo consta de un marco te\u00f3rico y de un estudio emp\u00edrico. En la primera parte, se describe una serie de documentos oficiales que tratan espec\u00edficamente las competencias clave de toda nuestra investigaci\u00f3n, a saber, la competencia comunicativa, la competencia intercultural y la competencia comunicativa intercultural. De cada una de estas competencias se estudiar\u00e1n sus componentes, se establecer\u00e1n los niveles de adquisici\u00f3n y desarrollo y se describir\u00e1n los agentes involucrados en ambos procesos y los contextos en que estos se producen. Esta secci\u00f3n se completar\u00e1 con una aproximaci\u00f3n al concepto de cultura desde la que se abordar\u00e1n aspectos como el de educaci\u00f3n intercultural, encuentro comunicativo intercultural, choque cultural o aculturaci\u00f3n. la segunda parte, el estudio emp\u00edrico, estar\u00e1 dedicada a la exposici\u00f3n de la hip\u00f3tesis y los objetivos espec\u00edficos y generales y al an\u00e1lisis de los datos ofrecidos por los cien sujetos de muestra, estudiantes de los tres cursos acad\u00e9micos en que se divide la diplomatura, y que habr\u00e1n sido recogidos con un instrumento de medida creado ad hoc, todo ello con el fin de averiguar su dominio de las competencias clave, el grado de habilidad lectora y el grado de habilidad para expresarse con correcci\u00f3n gramatical en la lengua extranjera que poseen los estudiantes y, al mismo tiempo, comprobar si existe alguna relaci\u00f3n entre estas dos habilidades y esas competencias clave mencionadas previamente. las conclusiones alcanzadas justificar\u00e1n la necesidad de realizar propuestas de innovaci\u00f3n para la mejora del programa de formaci\u00f3n del nuevo profesorado y propuestas de innovaci\u00f3n para el desarrollo de la competencia comunicativa intercultural con las que se pretende provocar y promover el desarrollo cognitivo y personal del futuro docente.    a study of magisterio lengua extranjera (ingl\u00e9s) students&apos; intercultural competence. Proposals to develop intercultural communicative competence.  abstract: \tthe aim of this doctoral dissertation is, on the one hand, to expose the level of knowledge the students of magisterio-especialidad lengua extranjera (ingl\u00e9s) have already acquired of the english culture and, on the other hand, to check whether that sociocultural knowledge is solid enough to serve as a sound starting point in the development of other skills which are essential for the fufilment of their teaching obligations in the future. The doctoral dissertation consists of a theoretical framework and an empirical study. In the first part, a number of documents which are specifically related to the key competences we have dealt with, namely, the communicativa competence, the intercultural competence and the intercultural competence, are described in detail. Our description will focus, firstly, on each one of the elements those are composed of. Then, on the levels of acquisition and development and on the agents involved in both processes. And last but not least, on the contexts in which they may take place. Finally, this section will conclude with an approach to the concept of culture and other closely related concepts such as intercultural education, intercultural communicative encounter, cultural shock or acculturation.  \tin the second part of our doctoral dissertation, the empirical study, the hypothesis and the objectives will be revisited and all the research data collected from a representative sample of one hundred students at different stages of their degree studies, will be analysed in order to establish whether they have a good command of the key competences, and whether or not they are capable of showing aceptable reading and gramatical skills. It is also our intention to check and prove the existence of any direct link between these skills and the key competences previously mentioned.  \tthe conclusions we reach at the end may justify the need for the proposals we submit which are aimed at improving the current teacher training programs and developing the students&apos;s intercultural communicative competence.
