Abd-b es un gen hox que especifica la identidad de la parte posterior del abdomen y la genitalia (segmentos 5-9) de drosophila.  la regulaci\u00f3n del gen abd-b es muy compleja y en esta tesis hemos estudiado las secuencias reguladoras del gen necesarias para que se exprese correctamente en el segmento octavo ya que no se conoc\u00edan muy bien. Hemos descubierto que existen una secuencias localizadas en la region 5\u00c2\u00bfdel gen que son capaces de dirigir la expresi\u00f3n de un gen lac-z en el segmento octavo. Adem\u00e1s hemos estudiado molecularmente unos alelos muantes de abd-b, llamados iab-8,9, estudios sugieren tambien que existen secuencias reguladoras requeridas para la correcta expresi\u00f3n del gen abd-b en el segmento octavo en la region 5\u00c2\u00bfdel mismo.  la funci\u00f3n de abd-b en la genitalia no se conocia muy bien, en esta tesis hemos estudiado la funci\u00f3n de este gen en el desarrollo de la genitalia adulta de la mosca. Hemos descubierto que abd-b se requiere para la correcta especificaci\u00f3n de la genitalia y cuando se elimina su funci\u00f3n esta se transforma en una pata u ocasionalmente en un antena. Las c\u00e9lulas mutantes para abd-b en la genitalia desreprimen la expresi\u00f3n de genes necesarios normalmente para que se desarroyen las patas, como dll y dac.
