Estos g\u00e9neros son conocidos como potencialmente t\u00f3xicos ya que varias especies pueden contener toxinas. Su estudio es importante porque en grandes cuantidades poden causar varios problemas en la salud humana, acuicultura y turismo. Las especies encontradas como epif\u00edtas sobre las macroalgas han sido: o. Cf. Siamensis, o. Cf. Ovata, c. Monotis, c. Cf. Canariensis, p. Lima, p. Levis, p. Elegans, p. Emarginatum \u00c2\u00bf complex y p. Rhathymum. Se han estudiadas morfol\u00f3gicamente con el microscopio \u00f3ptico, microscopio electr\u00f3nico de barrido y microscopio de fluorescencia. Tambi\u00e9n se han analizado molecularmente por extracci\u00f3n, amplificaci\u00f3n y secuenciaci\u00f3n de la regi\u00f3n lsu y its del radn lo que nos permiti\u00f3 construir y estudiar arboles filogen\u00e9ticas. Finalmente, se han estudiado fisiol\u00f3gicamente con fluorimetros como el water-pam que nos permiti\u00f3 conocer el crecimiento de determinadas cepas a diferentes intensidades de luz y estreses de luminosidad.
