El objetivo de la investigaci\u00f3n es profundizar en el estudio del an\u00e1lisis de asignaci\u00f3n de materias con el fin de identificar recomendaciones y tareas que proporcionen la mejora del proceso de indizaci\u00f3n y el dise\u00f1o de las pol\u00edticas de indizaci\u00f3n en las bibliotecas universitarias. Como objetivos espec\u00edficos se pretende analizar las teorias y metodolog\u00edas del an\u00e1lisis de materias en la catalogaci\u00f3n; estudiar la normalizaci\u00f3n en el \u00e1mbito de las bibliotecas universitarias; explorar los procesos de asignaci\u00f3n de materias usando la perspectiva sociocognitiva, de la semi\u00f3tica y de la ling\u00ed\u00bc\u00edstica textual y conocer los procesos de la asignaci\u00f3n de materias. Para todo ello, se realizo un an\u00e1lisis exhaustivo y cr\u00edtico de la literatura existente y se aplic\u00f3 la metodolog\u00eda del protocolo verbal &quot;pensar en alto&quot; y la investigaci\u00f3n etnogr\u00e1fica en diecis\u00e9is bibliotecas universitarias, en  seis de medicina y seis de inform\u00e1tica en brasil y en cuatro de biblioteconom\u00eda y documentaci\u00f3n en espa\u00f1a. Posteriormente, se llev\u00f3 a cabo uma tabulaci\u00f3n y an\u00e1lisis de los protocolos verbales individuales y de las entrevistas, que result\u00f3 ser revelador para conocer el proceso de asignaci\u00f3n de materias, lo que ha permitido detectar interessantes aspectos sobre la especificidad del vocabulario controlado, la pol\u00edtica de indizaci\u00f3n, la exhaustividad y especificidad en la indizaci\u00f3n, los h\u00e1bitos de los profesionales, la cognici\u00f3n profesional, la calidad en la asignaci\u00f3n de materias,  la lectura documental o la identificaci\u00f3n y selecci\u00f3n de conceptos, entre otros aspectos. Con los resultados obtenidos tambi\u00e9n se han podido elaborar directrices para llevar a cabo la asignaci\u00f3n de materias en bibliotecas universitarias. Igualmente se desprende que el proceso de asignaci\u00f3n de materias se ha mostrado diferente a lo mantenido por la teor\u00eda, por lo que la inexistencia de un instrumento como una pol\u00edtica de indizaci\u00f3n que asista al catalogador durante las tareas desarrolladas, le lleva a recurrir a m\u00e9todos personales que terminan afectando a la representaci\u00f3n de la informaci\u00f3n.   palabras clave: an\u00e1lisis documental de contenido. Investigaci\u00f3n etnogr\u00e1fica.   abstract  the need for improvement of practices, tools, processes and products involving the subject representation, promotes research aimed to contribute to the development of professional practice in the subject analysis in the subject cataloguing. The proposition of our research is to deepen the subject analysis, from the perspective of national and international authors,  standardization and professional society guidelines to identify of the analysis of subject cataloguing subject that facilitate the improvement of indexing process in indexing policy in university libraries. Have specific objectives aimed to deepen theoretical and methodological studies for subject cataloging and subject analysis; conduct studies on normalization in the context of university libraries; explore the subject analysis using aspects of socio-cognitive approach, semiotics and textual linguistics and understand the processes of subject analysis. For this, we performed an exhaustive analysis and critique of the existing literature and applied the methodology of the oral protocol &quot;think  aloud&quot; and ethnographic research in sixteen university libraries, six in medicine and six in the field of computer science in brazil and four in the area of librarianship and documentation in spain. Subsequently, there was a tabulation and analysis of individual verbal protocols and ethnographic research, which proved to be revealing to know the process of subject analysis, that have led to the discussion of elements such as specificity of controlled vocabulary, indexing policy, completeness and specificity, habits, collateral experience, professional cognition, quality of subject analysis, documentary reading, identification and selection of concepts, these concepts were discussed from the context of social cognitive cataloger, theory and standards. With the results we provide guidelines to develop the subject analysis in university libraries. The process of the subject analysis shows to be very different from theory, and the absence of an instrument to assist the cataloguer reflects him develop his own methods, and once accustomed to make the representation thus will not reflect on their results, leading to the representation and retrieval of information from getting harmed.   keywords: subject representation. Ethnographic research.    resumo   a necessidade de aprimoramento das pr\u00e1ticas, dos instrumentos, processos e produtos que envolvem o tratamento tem\u00e1tico da informa\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o, propicia investiga\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00b5es que objetivam contribuir para o desenvolvimento da pr\u00e1tica profissional da an\u00e1lise de assunto na cataloga\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o. A proposi\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o de nossa pesquisa \u00e9 aprofundar estudos acerca da an\u00e1lise de assunto na cataloga\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o de assunto, sob uma perspectiva de autores nacionais e internacionais, de normaliza\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o e de sociedade de profissionais para identificar diretrizes da an\u00e1lise de assunto na cataloga\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o de assunto que propiciem o aprimoramento do processo de indexa\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o na pol\u00edtica de indexa\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o em bibliotecas universit\u00e1rias. Possui como objetivos espec\u00edficos aprofundar estudos te\u00f3ricos e metodol\u00f3gicos voltados para a cataloga\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o de assunto e para a an\u00e1lise de assunto; realizar estudos sobre normaliza\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00b5es em contexto de bibliotecas universit\u00e1rias; explorar a an\u00e1lise de assunto utilizando aspectos da abordagem sociocognitiva, da semi\u00f3tica e da lingu\u00edstica textual e conhecer os processos da an\u00e1lise de assunto. Para isso, realizou-se uma an\u00e1lise exaustiva e cr\u00edtica da literatura existente e deste modo aplicou-se a metodolog\u00eda do protocolo verbal &quot;pensar alto&quot; e a pesquisa etnogr\u00e1fica em dezesseis bibliotecas universit\u00e1rias, sendo seis na \u00e1rea de medicina e seis na \u00e1rea da ci\u00ed\u00aancia da computa\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o no brasil e quatro na \u00e1rea de biblioteconomia e documenta\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o na espanha. Posteriormente, realizou-se uma tabula\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o e an\u00e1lise dos protocolos verbais individuais e das pesquisas etnogr\u00e1ficas, que resultou ser revelador para conhecer o processo de an\u00e1lise de assunto, que propiciaram a discuss\u00ed\u00a3o de elementos como especificidade do vocabul\u00e1rio controlado, pol\u00edtica de indexa\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o, exaustividade e especificidade, h\u00e1bitos, experi\u00ed\u00aancia colateral, cogni\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o profissional, qualidade da an\u00e1lise de assunto, usu\u00e1rios, acesso a linguagem document\u00e1ria, leitura document\u00e1ria, identifica\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o e sele\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o de conceitos, esses conceitos foram discutidos a partir do contexto sociocognitivo do catalogador, da teoria e de normaliza\u00ed\u00a7\u00ed\u00a3o. Com os resultados obtidos foi poss\u00edvel elaborar diretrizes para desenvolver a an\u00e1lise de assunto em bibliotecas universit\u00e1rias.
