En un sentido m\u00e1s amplio, el trabajo se engloba dentro de las actividades del  grupo de teledetecci\u00f3n (rslab) del departamento teor\u00eda de la se\u00f1al y comunicaciones, upc, en el marco de la misi\u00f3n smos (soil moisture and ocean salinity) de la agencia europea del espacio (esa). El trabajo se divide en:  1) prestaciones del sensor smos  una primera evaluaci\u00f3n de las prestaciones de smos se obtuvieron al finalizar la fase de comisionado de la misi\u00f3n en mayo de 2010. As\u00ed, como primer paso de este trabajo, se han revisado los procedimientos para evaluar la sensibilidad y los errores espaciales de smos, desarrollado nuevas t\u00e9cnicas para mejorar la comparaci\u00f3n de las im\u00e1genes medidas a blancos conocidos (ground truth).Como mejor opci\u00f3n, se han elegido im\u00e1genes de smos sobre el oc\u00e9ano, caracterizadas por variaciones suaves de la temperatura de brillo para las cuales existen modelos te\u00f3ricos precisos.  2) t\u00e9cnicas de reducci\u00f3n de los errores espaciales  uno de los principales problemas en las primeras im\u00e1genes de smos eran los errores espaciales, sensiblemente mayores que los previstos. As\u00ed, de forma sistem\u00e1tica y para identificar su origen, cada fuente potencial de error en la calibraci\u00f3n del instrumento se ha simulado y su impacto comparado a los mapas de error medidos por el instrumento.   3) errores espaciales en el campo de visi\u00f3n libre de alias, extendido (eaf-fov)  inicialmente, la degradaci\u00f3n de las prestaciones del sensor era especialmente importante en el llamado eaf-fov. As\u00ed, para identificar las causas de error, el problema se ha abordado de dos formas: primero, se ha dividido el campo de visi\u00f3n en diferentes \u00e1reas de inter\u00e9s de acuerdo al n\u00famero y posici\u00f3n de los alias y se han ordenado los puntos de acuerdo con el \u00e1ngulo de incidencia. Despu\u00e9s se ha evaluado el impacto de la calibraci\u00f3n y los diferentes m\u00e9todos de inversi\u00f3n en cada una de estas \u00e1reas.  4) errores espaciales de smos en modo polarimetrico (full-pol)  el objetivo principal de esta tesis se ha alcanzado al finalizar el desarrollo de un procedimiento de medida y reconstrucci\u00f3n de im\u00e1genes en modo full-pol, que ha producido mapas de temperatura polarim\u00e9trica de una calidad claramente superior. Esta herramienta ha permitido tambi\u00e9n un an\u00e1lisis sistem\u00e1tico de las dos causas residuales de error espacial: el llamado error m\u00ednimo (floor error) y los debidos a la incertidumbre en los diagramas de radiaci\u00f3n de las antenas. Finalmente, se han producido mapas operacionales del fen\u00f3meno de rotaci\u00f3n de faraday como validaci\u00f3n de la calidad de las medidas polarim\u00e9tricas producidas por smos en modo
