Constituye una secci\u00f3n del archivo general de la fundaci\u00f3n casa de medina sidonia (agfcms) que en la actualidad se ubica en el palacio de los guzmanes en sanl\u00facar de barrameda (c\u00e1diz). Se trata de un archivo patrimonial de titularidad privada y de uso p\u00fablico.  el volumen del fondo v\u00e9lez supera los 1.200 legajos de documentaci\u00f3n y su extensi\u00f3n cronol\u00f3gica abarca del siglo xiv al xx.  su pertenencia actual a la fundaci\u00f3n casa de medina sidonia ha sido el resultado de un proceso hist\u00f3rico de agregaci\u00f3n de casas nobiliarias. Formado en murcia a finales de la edad media, la casa de los marqueses de los v\u00e9lez se integr\u00f3 en la de los duques de montalto de arag\u00f3n en 1715 y en la de los marqueses de villafranca del bierzo en 1727; a ella tambi\u00e9n se agreg\u00f3 en 1779 la casa de los duques de medina sidonia. Este proceso deriv\u00f3 a finales del siglo xviii en la formaci\u00f3n del archivo general de las casas de villafranca, v\u00e9lez y medina sidonia y ha culminado, dos siglos despu\u00e9s, en la creaci\u00f3n de la fundaci\u00f3n casa de medina sidonia.   el objetivo de nuestro trabajo ha sido el estudio de la g\u00e9nesis y evoluci\u00f3n del fondo v\u00e9lez, sus sistemas de organizaci\u00f3n y de instalaci\u00f3n, la ubicaci\u00f3n del dep\u00f3sito, su naturaleza y tipolog\u00eda, y las circunstancias hist\u00f3ricas que han conducido a la situaci\u00f3n actual. Para ello hemos trazado una &quot;arqueolog\u00eda archiv\u00edstica&quot; utilizando, entre otras fuentes, los inventarios y las diversas relaciones de escrituras que se han conservado en el agfcms.  el trabajo se ha dividido en dos partes. En la primera (cap\u00edtulos 1-5) se han analizado los aspectos te\u00f3ricos y metodol\u00f3gicos. En la segunda estudiamos la historia, estructura y organizaci\u00f3n del fondo v\u00e9lez (cap\u00edtulos 6-12).  hemos distinguido cinco fases en la historia del archivo de los v\u00e9lez:  1. Fase de creaci\u00f3n: el archivo de los adelantados de murcia (siglos xiv y xv). 2. Fase de consolidaci\u00f3n: el archivo de los marqueses de los v\u00e9lez (siglos xvi y xvii). 3. Fase de agregaci\u00f3n: la integraci\u00f3n de las casas de villafranca y medina sidonia (siglo xviii). 4. Fase de p\u00e9rdida de funcionalidad del archivo (siglos xix y xx). 5. Fase de reorganizaci\u00f3n: la formaci\u00f3n del agfcms. La obra de luisa isabel \u00e1lvarez de toledo.   en el cap\u00edtulo 7 hemos estudiado la g\u00e9nesis del archivo de los adelantados de murcia, partiendo del inventario m\u00e1s antiguo que hemos analizado, fechado en 1483. En el cap\u00edtulo 8 estudiamos la consolidaci\u00f3n del archivo en los dep\u00f3sitos de v\u00e9lez blanco, murcia y mula en los siglos xvi y xvii. En el cap\u00edtulo 9 analizamos la estructura y organizaci\u00f3n del archivo en mula (1608-1755) y el traslado de la documentaci\u00f3n a Madrid en 1755.  en el cap\u00edtulo 10 estudiamos la formaci\u00f3n del archivo general y el proceso de su ordenaci\u00f3n y catalogaci\u00f3n en el nuevo dep\u00f3sito del palacio de la calle don pedro de Madrid, as\u00ed como la estructura de sus oficinas y personal dependiente.  nuestro estudio permite distinguir dos grandes etapas en la historia del archivo: su presencia en el territorio murciano y su ubicaci\u00f3n en la corte. El punto de inflexi\u00f3n es el a\u00f1o 1755. De la primera etapa destacamos las disposiciones archiv\u00edsticas del gobernador domingo de zavala, las ordenanzas de luis fajardo requesens y la labor de tutela y organizaci\u00f3n de los gobernadores bernardino del castillo y pedro de casanova. A partir de la unificaci\u00f3n de las casas agregadas, podemos hablar de archivo general, instituci\u00f3n que caracteriza la segunda etapa. A partir de este momento son los archiveros los que tienen la responsabilidad de las labores archiv\u00edsticas. Destacamos las figuras de los archiveros manuel taranco, manuel mart\u00edn y gregorio barcones. El instrumento b\u00e1sico para entender todo este proceso es el reglamento del archivo general de las casas de villafranca, v\u00e9lez y medina sidonia (c. 1797), que hemos estudiado en el cap\u00edtulo 11.   the archive of the house of los v\u00e9lez is a documentary collection of noble origin generated by the fajardo family, &quot;adelantados&quot; (or governors) of murcia and marquis of los v\u00e9lez. It constitutes a section of the archivo general de la fundaci\u00f3n casa de medina sidonia (agfcms), which nowadays is located in the palace de &quot;los guzmanes&quot; in sanl\u00facar de barrameda (c\u00e1diz). It is a private estate archive but of public use.   the v\u00e9lez documentary fund exceeds 1,200 bundles of documents covering from the 14th to the 20th century.   its current belonging to the foundation house of medina sidonia has been the result of a historical process of aggregation of aristocratic houses. Formed in murcia at the end of the middle ages, the house of the marquis of los v\u00e9lez was integrated into the dukedom of montalto of aragon in 1715 and into marquisate of villafranca del bierzo in 1727; the house of the dukes of medina sidonia was also added in 1779. This process resulted in the formation of the general archive of the houses of villafranca, v\u00e9lez and medina sidonia at the end of the 18th century. Two centuries later, this central archive became the foundation  house of medina sidonia.   the aim of our work was the study of the genesis and evolution of v\u00e9lez fund, its organization and installation systems, location of the deposit, nature and typology, as well as the historical background leading to the current situation. We have drawn an &apos;archaeology of the archival science&apos; using, among other sources, inventories and different lists of written documents (mostly deeds) that have been preserved in the agfcms.   the work has been divided into two parts. In the first part, we have analyzed the theoretical and methodological aspects (chapters 1-5). In the second part, the history, structure and organization of the fund velez is analyzed (chapters 6-12).   we have distinguished five stages in the history of los v\u00e9lez archive:   1. Creation stage: the archive of the adelantados of murcia (14th and 15th centuries). 2. Consolidation stage: the archive of the marquis of los v\u00e9lez (16th and 17th centuries). 3. Aggregation stage: the integration of the houses of villafranca and medina sidonia (18th century). 4. Stage of loss of functionality of the archive (19th and 20th centuries). 5. Reorganization stage: the formation of the agfcms. The work of luisa isabel \u00e1lvarez de toledo.     in chapter 7 we have studied the genesis of the archive of the adelantados of murcia, starting from the oldest inventory discussed, dated in 1483. In chapter 8 we have studied the consolidation of the archive in the deposits of v\u00e9lez blanco, murcia and mula in the 16th and 17th centuries. In chapter 9 we analyze the structure and organization of mula archive (1608-1755) and the transfer of documents to Madrid in 1755.   in chapter 10 we have studied the general archive formation and the process of organization and cataloguing in a new place, the palace in don pedro street in Madrid, as well as the structure of their offices and staff.   in our study two major stages in the history of the archive can be distinguished: its presence in the murcian territory and its location in court. The year 1755 is the turning point. In the first stage we have noted the archival provisions of governor domingo de zavala, luis fajardo requesens ordinances and the work of supervision and organization of governors bernardino del castillo and pedro de casanova. From the unification of the added houses, we can talk about general archive, the institution that characterizes the second stage. From this moment archivists are the responsible of the archival work. We emphasize the figures of archivists manuel taranco, manuel martin and gregory barcones. The basic instrument to understand this whole process is the reglamento del archivo general de las casas de villafranca, v\u00e9lez y medina sidonia (c. 1797), which is studied in chapter
