Uno de ellos son los sistemas de sensores electr\u00f3nicos, de manera que la informaci\u00f3n recogida por un sensor pueda ser centralizada y procesada m\u00e1s f\u00e1cilmente.Cuando las tecnolog\u00edas inal\u00e1mbricas de comunicaciones de corto y medio alcance fueron aplicadas a las redes de sensores, estas redes sufrieron un verdadero empuje conduciendo a un nuevo y amplio abanico de aplicaciones.Se han desarrollado varios est\u00e1ndares de comunicaciones inal\u00e1mbricas que permiten interconectar nodos sensores atendiendo a las especificaciones de la red. Uno de los m\u00e1s extendidos en el mercado es bluetooth, que surgi\u00f3 de una iniciativa privada. Su concepci\u00f3n parti\u00f3 de la necesidad de establecer un est\u00e1ndar para la sustituci\u00f3n de los cables entre equipos electr\u00f3nicos. Con el paso de los a\u00f1os, bluetooth lleg\u00f3 a ser m\u00e1s que el est\u00e1ndar que aspiraba a ser y pas\u00f3 de est\u00e1ndar de facto a est\u00e1ndar de iure en el est\u00e1ndar ieee 802.15.1.Bluetooth permite interconectar nodos en red, en arquitecturas conocidas como piconets. Un nodo central gestiona las comunicaciones que se dan en la red. Adem\u00e1s, bluetooth abre la puerta para que los nodos puedan participar en varias redes de este tipo actuando como nodos pasarela entre ellas.A pesar de que bluetooth ha protagonizado una vasta literatura cient\u00edfica, el rendimiento temporal de los nodos pasarela apenas ha sido estudiado sobre plataformas hardware. No se ha informado de ning\u00fan modelo emp\u00edrico, testado en plataformas hardware en laboratorios o despliegues en el mundo real, que permita predecir el comportamiento de una red multisalto en t\u00e9rminos de latencia.Esta tesis recoge los frutos de la labor investigadora del autor a lo largo de los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os en el estudio de las redes multisalto bluetooth. Durante este tiempo se desarrollaron una serie de nodos para componer una plataforma hardware que permitiera la realizaci\u00f3n de los ensayos necesarios en el estudio del rendimiento temporal de la red multisalto.Junto a la plataforma de ensayos se desarrollaron dos metodolog\u00edas propias para obtener la informaci\u00f3n necesaria para conocer en detalle el comportamiento de los nodos pasarela bluetooth, as\u00ed como la aportaci\u00f3n a la latencia global de las tareas de comunicaci\u00f3n y de procesamiento de datos.Sobre la plataforma se han realizado diferentes ensayos variando los diferentes par\u00e1metros que potencialmente afectan al rendimiento temporal de la red, como son el modo de trabajo de los enlaces entre los nodos o el tipo de paquete de datos definido por bluetooth empleado en las comunicaciones.El an\u00e1lisis de los resultados ha dado lugar a un modelo emp\u00edrico as\u00ed como a una serie de conclusiones sobre el rendimiento de la red. El modelo define diferentes ecuaciones para predecir la latencia en comunicaciones multisalto sobre redes bluetooth.Tesiaren laburpenakomunikazioaren teknolog\u00edak erabiliz sistema elektronikoak konektatzeko aukera-sorta oparoa da. Loturek askotariko helburuak izan ditzakete eta horien artean nabarmena da sentsore elektronikoko sistemak eratzearena, horrela sentsoreek neurtutako informazioa errazago zentralizatu eta prozesatzeko. Hain zuzen ere, irispide labur eta ertaineko haririk gabeko komunikazio-teknolog\u00edak sentsore-sareetara aplikatu zirenean, sare horiek bultzada nabarmena hartu zuten, eta aplikazio-sorta berri ugaria sortu zen.Sareen espezifikazioetara moldatzeko, neurgailu-nodoak lotzeko haririk gabeko hainbat komunikazio-estandar garatu dira; merkatuan hedatuenetako bat, dudarik gabe, bluetooth estandarra da. Haren sorrera ekimen pribatu baten eskutik etorri zen, hain zuzen ere tresna elektronikoen arteko kableak kentzeko estandar bat finkatu beharrari erantzuteko asmoz. Haren sorreratik urte batzuetara, hasiera bateko asmoak gainditu zituen eta, ieee 802.15.1 estandarra ezarri zenean, de facto estandarra izatetik de iure estandar izatera pasatu zen.Bluetooth estandarrak nodoak sare bat osatuz lotzea ahalbidetzen du.  Pikonet izena duenarkitektura eratuz osatzen da sarea, non erdiko nodo nagusi batek sarean gertatzen diren komunikazioak kudeatzen baititu. Gainera, bluetoothen (bluetooth-en), nodoek sare batean baino gehiagotan parte har dezakete eta, pasabide-nodo moduan lan eginez, jatorrizko sareak konekta ditzakete.Nahiz eta bluetooth literatura zientifiko zabaleko protagonista izan, pasabide-nodoen denbora errendimendua oso gutxi aztertu da plataforma hardwaretan.  Izan ere, ez da argitaratuhardware-plataformetan (laborategi edo mundu errealean) egiaztatutako eredu enpirikorik, jauzi aniztun sareetako atzerapen-denbora aurreikusteko.Tesi honek biltzen du jauzi aniztun bluetooth-sareetaz tesi-egilearen lanaren azken urteotako uzta. Hasteko, sare mota horien denbora-errendimenduaren analisia ahalbidetzeko, saiakerak burutzeko hardware-plataforma bat osatu arren nodo sorta bat garatu zen.Saiakera-plataformarekin batera, denbora-informazioa biltzeko berariazko bi metodolog\u00eda garatu dira. Informazio horren guztiaren bidez, zehatz-mehatz ebatzi dira bai bluetooth estandarreko pasabide-nodoen portaera bai datu-prozesatzeak eta komunikazio-lanek atzerapen orokorrean duten ekarpena.Plataformaz baliatuz, askotariko saiakerak egin dira sarearen denbora-errendimenduan eragina izan dezaketen parametroak aldatuz: nodoen arteko loturen lan-modua, komunikazioetan erabilitako bluetooth estandarrak zehaztutako datu-pakete mota eta abar.Emaitzen analisitik eredu enpiriko bat sortu da lehenengo aldiz, eta sarearen errendimenduari buruzko hainbat ondorio atera. Tesi honetan garatutako ereduak jauzi aniztun bluetooth-komunikazioetan agertzen diren denbora-atzerapenak aurreikusteko ekuazio nagusiak planteatzen ditu.Abstractcommunication technologies are used to interconnect electronic systems with several purposes. The electronic sensor systems are one of them, where the information collected in a sensor can be centralized and processed in an easier way. The application of the short and medium range wireless communication technologies to the sensor networks boosted their development leading to a new and wide range of applications.Several standards that permit the interconnection of the sensor nodes according to the specifications of the network have been developed. One of the most widely spread is bluetooth, born into a private enterprise. Its conception came from the need to establish a standard for the substitution of the cables among electronic equipment. As years went by, bluetooth became more than the standard it sought to be and went from a standard de facto to a standard de iure when defining the ieee 802.15.1 standard.Bluetooth allows the interconnection of nodes in network architectures called piconets. A central node manages the communications inside the network. Besides, bluetooth opens the door for the nodes to participate in several piconets acting as gateways.Even though a huge amount of the scientific literature is focused on bluetooth, the time eficiency of the gateway nodes has barely been studied on hardware platforms. No reporton any empirical model to make the multihop network performance in terms of latency foreseeable and tested on hardware platforms in laboratories or real world deployments has been found.This thesis collects the results of the research activity of the author in the last years in the study of the bluetooth multihop networks. During this time, a series of nodes were developed in order to create a hardware platform that enabled the necessary tests to study the time performance of a multihop network.Two methodologies of my own have been developed with the test platform in order to obtain the information necessary to know in detail the performance of the bluetooth gateway nodes, as well as to study the contribution of the communication and the data processing tasks into the global latency.Several tests have been carried out on this platform tuning the different parameters that potentially influence the time performance of the network, such as the working mode of the links between nodes or the type of the data packets defined by bluetooth used in the communications.The analysis of the results of the tests led to an empiric model as well as a series of conclusions about the efficiency of the network.
