Dependiendo del genotipo de la mutaci\u00f3n este proceso degenerativo ser\u00e1 m\u00e1s o menos severo, causando en \u00faltima instancia la ceguera.El primer objetivo de la presente tesis fue estudiar el efecto neuroprotector del factor neurotr\u00f3fico derivado de la gl\u00eda (gdnf) comparando la concentraci\u00f3n y medio de liberaci\u00f3n del factor en retinas afectadas. Comparamos inyecci\u00f3n intraocular del factor protector versus la aplicaci\u00f3n de microesferas de plga cargadas de distintas concentraciones de dicho factor en un modelo de rata transg\u00e9nica con rp (p23h-1). Concluimos que la concentraci\u00f3n de 18ngr es m\u00e1s beneficiosa que la de 33ngr para la protecci\u00f3n de los fotorreceptores tanto aplicada en bolo como en microesferas liberadoras. El segundo objetivo de la tesis fue el estudio de la conectividad y proyecciones de las c\u00e9lulas ganglionares de la retina cuando la enfermedad esta muy avanzada y la degeneraci\u00f3n de los fotorreceptores es pr\u00e1cticamente total. Los resultados indicaron que las c\u00e9lulas ganglionares de la retina, encargadas de transportar la informaci\u00f3n visual hasta \u00e1reas cerebrales, no se ven afectadas en edades muy avanzadas, de estos animales, ya que el transporte y proyecciones se mantienen intactos. Abriendo por tanto una esperanza al posible futuro tratamiento de la enfermedad, ya que las c\u00e9lulas encargadas de transportar la informaci\u00f3n visual est\u00e1n funcionando incluso cuando no
