El cvbm est\u00e1 formado por el conjunto de los ecosistemas peri-urbanos asociados a las zonas urbanas del bilbao metropolitano y ocupa aproximadamente el 75% del \u00e1rea metropolitana. Su importancia reside en el hecho de que si esta \u00e1rea fuese planificada y gestionada de forma adecuada, podr\u00eda mantener la provisi\u00f3n de una amplia variedad de servicios, jugando un papel esencial en el suministro local de servicios de los ecosistemas a los habitantes del \u00e1rea metropolitana y mejorando el bienestar de la poblaci\u00f3n. En la actualidad, se le est\u00e1 prestando poca atenci\u00f3n al cvbm en el proceso de revitalizaci\u00f3n que se encuentra en marcha en el \u00e1rea metropolitana porque los gestores y tomadores de decisiones no est\u00e1n considerando el potencial que tienen estos ecosistemas peri-urbanos en el suministro de diferentes servicios de los ecosistemas.
