Lehenik eta behin,atun hegahoriaren ugal estrategia ikertu da. Atun hegahoriak ugalkortasun mugagabeaerakutsi du, obozitoen garapena asinkronikoa izanik eta errutea partziala. Bigarrenik,atun hegahoriaren ugalkortasun pontentzialean garrantzitsuak diren zenbait ugalezaugarri aztertu dira: ugalkortasuna, lehen erruta tamaina, ugal urtarokotasuna etaarrain emeen kondizioa. Atun hegahori emeen populazioaren %50a heltzeko tamaina(l50) 75 cm-tan balioztatu da, errute sasoi garrantzitsuena azaroa eta otsaila bitarteanaurkituz.
