Esta realidad ha hecho que las ciudades deban ser capaces de aportar un valor diferencial que atraiga y\/o retenga a sus diferentes p\u00fablicos objetivo (residentes, visitantes e inversores).En este sentido, los gobiernos locales como principales responsables e impulsores de la gesti\u00f3n de la ciudad, deben trabajar orientados al logro de ventajas competitivas para la misma, de manera que sean preferidas por sus potenciales grupos de inter\u00e9s y ello, contribuya a su prosperidad. Para lograrlo, es necesario estar en constante alerta a las muchas oportunidades y amenazas a las que se enfrentan, y tener presentes sus fortalezas y debilidades con respecto a las ciudades rivales. En este esfuerzo, entendemos que la direcci\u00f3n estrat\u00e9gica urbana, el city marketing y la gesti\u00f3n de calidad total \u00c2\u00bf excelencia adoptadas por los organismos gestores de la ciudad pueden resultar de gran utilidad y contribuir de manera valiosa a la mejora de la competitividad urbana y de los resultados de la misma.En este trabajo, a trav\u00e9s de la metodolog\u00eda del estudio de casos, se estudian las relaciones existentes entre los tres enfoques de gesti\u00f3n mencionados (city marketing, gesti\u00f3n de calidad total \u00c2\u00bf excelencia y direcci\u00f3n estrat\u00e9gica) y entre \u00e9stos y los resultados urbanos.
