The thesis has been developed from data obtained from various national and internationalprojects in which the diagnosis and prediction unit of ik4-tekniker take part in the last 6 years.This thesis was created with the main objective to develop a protocol to optimize the calibration of sensor systemsvisible-near infrared (vis-nir) developed by ik4-tekniker for real-time monitoring of different types of fluids throughcombination of different variable selection techniques and the choice of most suitable pre-processing strategy based oncharacteristics of the spectra obtained by the sensor systems. This objective arises from the need to improve theprecision and accuracy of the vis-nir sensor systems, with the ultimate goal of obtaining a robust and reliable aspossible sensor system for each application. The variable selection techniques studied in this work have been thefollowing: the martens uncertainty test, interval partial least square regression (ipls) and genetic algorithms (gas).In the case of the pre-processing strategy has been trying to combine different methods commonly used in thetreatment of spectroscopic data, such as smoothing or multivariate scatter correction (msc). The unscrambler ver 9.8(camo software as, oslo, norway) and plstoolbox (eigenvector research, inc., Wenatchee, usa) for matlab (thematworks natcik inc., Usa) have been the software in the thesis work.The type of fluids studied in this thesis can be classified in two groups: engine lubricating oils and foodstuffs. The kindof lubricating oils studied were gas engine and marine diesel engines lubricating oils. On the other hand, milk and ciderwere studied as foodstuff products. In the case of lubricating oils the parameters directly related to the degradation andcontamination of lubricants were monitored. In the case of milk and cider the parameters directly related to itsmanufacturing process and the final qualities of the product were monitored.Throughout the thesis work a description of the design and manufacture of vis-nir sensor system prototypes is carriedout, as well as, an exhaustive and detailed explanation of the calibration and implementation process of the sensorsystems in each application is performed. The penultimate chapters describes, without going into detail, otherapplications on which the sensor systems have been implemented, showing the adjustments made for their properimplementation. A discussion about the pros and cons of using each of the variable selection techniques applied on theoptimization of sensor calibration sensor system is presented in the last chapter of the thesis, as well as, the mainconclusions achieved in the thesis work.Esta tesis doctoral ha sido realizada en la fundaci\u00f3n ik4-tekniker en colaboraci\u00f3n con el departamento de qu\u00edmicaanal\u00edtica de la facultad de ciencias de ehu\/upv de leioa, bajo la supervisi\u00f3n de aitor arnaiz y luis \u00e1ngel fern\u00e1ndezcuadrado. La tesis ha sido desarrollada a partir de los datos obtenidos de diferentes proyectos nacionales einternacionales en los que participo la unidad de diagnostico y predicci\u00f3n de ik4-tekniker en los \u00faltimos 6 a\u00f1os.Esta tesis naci\u00f3 con el objetivo principal de desarrollar un protocolo para la optimizaci\u00f3n del proceso de calibraci\u00f3n delos sistemas sensores visible-near infrared (vis-nir) desarrollados por ik4-tekniker para la monitorizaci\u00f3n en tiemporeal de diferentes tipos de fluidos, mediante la combinaci\u00f3n de diferentes t\u00e9cnicas de selecci\u00f3n de variables y laelecci\u00f3n de la estrategia de pre-procesado m\u00e1s adecuado en funci\u00f3n de las caracter\u00edsticas de los espectros obtenidospor los sistemas sensores. Dicho objetivo surge de la necesidad de mejorar la precisi\u00f3n y la exactitud de los sistemassensores desarrollados, con el fin \u00faltimo de obtener un sistema sensor lo m\u00e1s robusto y fiable posible para cadaaplicaci\u00f3n en el que va a ser implementado. Las t\u00e9cnicas de selecci\u00f3n de variables utilizados han sido tres: themartens uncertainty test, interval partial least squares regression (ipls) y algoritmos geneticos (gas). En el casodel pre-procesado se ha intentado combinar diferentes m\u00e9todos utilizados normalmente en el tratamiento de datosespectrosc\u00f3picos, como el suavizado o la correcci\u00f3n de dispersi\u00f3n multivariante (msc) . Los software utilizados en larealizaci\u00f3n del estudio quimiometrico han sido the unscrambler ver 9.8 (camo software as, oslo, noruega) y elplstoolbox (eigenvector research, inc. Wenatchee, u.S.A) para matlab (the matworks inc. Natcik, u.S.A)los tipos de fluidos estudiados en esta tesis se pueden clasificar principalmente en dos grupos: aceites lubricantes demotores y productos alimenticios. Los tipos de aceites lubricantes estudiados han sido lubricantes de motores de gas yaceites lubricantes de motores marinos diesel, mientras que dentro de los productos alimenticios se han estudiado laleche y la sidra. En el caso de los aceites lubricantes se han monitorizado par\u00e1metros directamente relacionados conel proceso de degradaci\u00f3n y contaminaci\u00f3n de los lubricantes, mientras que en el caso de la leche y la sidra lospar\u00e1metros analizados est\u00e1n directamente relacionados con su proceso de elaboraci\u00f3n y la calidad final del productoobtenido.A lo largo de la tesis se realiza una descripci\u00f3n del dise\u00f1o y la fabricaci\u00f3n de los diferentes prototipos utilizados encada una de las aplicaciones, as\u00ed como una explicaci\u00f3n exhaustiva y detallada del proceso de implementaci\u00f3n ycalibraci\u00f3n de cada de los sistemas sensores en cada una de las aplicaciones descritas anteriormente. De igualmanera en uno de los cap\u00edtulos finales se describe, sin entrar en detalle, otras aplicaciones en las que han sidoutilizados los sistemas sensores mostrando en cada uno ellos las adaptaciones realizadas para su correctaimplementaci\u00f3n.
