Ikerketa honenlehenengo atalean partikulen ezaugarri fisiko-kimikoak aztertu dira:granulometria, oinarrizko osaera biokimikoa eta detrituen aurreko entzimenerantzun hidrolitikoa. Bigarren atalean, bibalbioak detritu desberdinez elikatudira eta asimilazio-balantzearen parametro fisiologikoak (aklaramendu-,ingestio- eta xurgapen-tasak, digestio-edukiera, in vitro entzimen jarduera etaigarotze-denbora) aztertu dira. Detrituak erabiltzeko c. Eduleren gaitasuneanpartikulen kontzentrazioak, janariarekiko aklimatazio-denborak eta urtesasoiarenaldaketak izan ditzaketen eraginak aztertzeko asmoz diseinatu zirenesperimentuak. Emaitzetan ikusi denez, detrituetatik eratorritako partikulakdigeritzeko gaitasun handia du c. Edulek. Dena den, material detritikodesberdinak euren karbohidrato osaeraren arabera aldatzen den etekinarekinxurgatzen dira, osaera horrek karbohidratoak hidrolizatzeko digestioentzimenahalmena baldintzatzen baitu. Detrituak xurgatzeko c.
