Sus caracter\u00c2\u00bfsticas histopatol\u00c2\u00bfgicas son los agregados extracelulares denominados placas seniles, compuestas por p\u00c2\u00bfptido \u00c2\u00bf amiloide, y los agregados intracelulares llamados ovillos neurofibrilares (onf), que se componen de ac\u00c2\u00bfmulos filamentosos intraneuronales de la prote\u00c2\u00bfna tau hiperfosforilada. A pesar de que la etiolog\u00c2\u00bfa de la enfermedad se desconoce, la hip\u00c2\u00bftesis de la cascada del amiloide postula que el evento inicial que finalmente lleva a la neurodegeneraci\u00c2\u00bfn y a la demencia es el desequilibrio entre la producci\u00c2\u00bfn y la eliminaci\u00c2\u00bfn del p\u00c2\u00bfptido \u00c2\u00bf amiloide. Estudios recientes han puesto de manifiesto que las especies oligom\u00c2\u00bfricas solubles del p\u00c2\u00bfptido \u00c2\u00bf amiloide son las especies predominantemente neurot\u00c2\u00bfxicas y correlacionan mejor con los d\u00c2\u00bfficits observados en la enfermedad. Las astrogliosis es una respuesta del astrocito ante la presencia de da\u00c2\u00bfo en el cerebro. En la ea se han descrito astrocitos reactivos rodeando a las placas con sus procesos, sin embargo la relevancia de este evento en la enfermedad se desconoce. En el presente trabajo se ha descrito una nueva ruta de se\u00c2\u00bfalizaci\u00c2\u00bfn activada por los olig\u00c2\u00bfmeros del p\u00c2\u00bfptido \u00c2\u00bf amiloide en astrocitos, que involucra a las nadph oxidasas y la integrina \u00c2\u00bf1, tanto in vitro como in vivo, mediante inyecciones intrahipocampales.
