En  esta tesis se eval\u00faa la biotransformaci\u00f3n por enzimas citocromo p450  humanas de diversos compuestos de esta familia, entre los que se  incluyen tetrahidro-beta-carbolinas, beta-carbolinas, metoxi-beta- carbolinas y cationes carbolinio, as\u00ed como varios an\u00e1logos t\u00f3xicos  derivados de piridina como el 1-metil-4-fenil-1,2,3,6-tetrahidropiridina  (mptp). Los metabolitos producidos se han identificado y determinado  mediante hplc-dad-fluorescencia y hplc acoplada a espectrometr\u00eda  masas (ms) y se han obtenido los par\u00e1metros cin\u00e9ticos de  biotransformaci\u00f3n. Los resultados obtenidos ponen de manifiesto que  estos compuestos sufren biotransformaci\u00f3n enzim\u00e1tica dando lugar a  diversos metabolitos de oxidaci\u00f3n que var\u00edan seg\u00fan la subestructura  espec\u00edfica de la carbolina y de la enzima citocromo p450 involucrada.  como consecuencia, podemos decir que la biotransformaci\u00f3n de estas  sustancias puede ser determinante en su actividad biol\u00f3gica y t\u00f3xica.  tambi\u00e9n se ha puesto de manifiesto que los cationes carbolinio no se  reducen por acci\u00f3n de la enzima citocromo p450 reductasa  y no generan  especies reactivas de ox\u00edgeno.  Por \u00faltimo,  se ha evaluado la actividad de  las beta-carbolinas y antioxidantes como inhibidores de los citocromos  p450 poni\u00e9ndose de manifiesto que algunas de estas sustancias son
