El espectro cl\u00ednico de la enfermedad es muy amplio variando desde la hepatitis aguda con resoluci\u00f3n espont\u00e1nea hasta el desarrollo de cirrosis hep\u00e1tica, presentando una elevada proporci\u00f3n de progresi\u00f3n a la cronicidad. Para el manejo cl\u00ednico de los pacientes con esta enfermedad se utilizan cuatro marcadores virol\u00f3gicos: los anticuerpos anti-vhc, el arn viral, el genotipo del virus y el ant\u00edgeno core del virus. La detecci\u00f3n de ant\u00edgeno core del vhc se realiza actualmente en pocos laboratorios, debido a que la t\u00e9cnica que parece dar mejores resultados es de reciente aparici\u00f3n y est\u00e1 siendo evaluada (architect hcv ag, abbott diagnostics). Nuestro objetivo ha sido ha sido evaluar este nuevo ensayo. Se seleccionaron 300 sueros con al menos una petici\u00f3n de carga viral de vhc (cobas amplipred\/ cobas taqman, roche diagnostics)  y se realiz\u00f3 la t\u00e9cnica objeto del estudio. Los datos se recogieron en una base de datos excel y se analizaron con el programa spss (18.0). La t\u00e9cnica evaluada posee una sensibilidad del 89% y una especificidad del 98%. Los valores predictivos positivo y negativo fueron del 98% y 91%. Los coeficientes de probabilidad son \u00fatiles para predecir la probabilidad de estar infectado despu\u00e9s de realizar el test. Observamos una buena correlaci\u00f3n entre la carga viral y el ant\u00edgeno core del vhc. Concluimos que el ensayo architect hcv ag puede incorporarse en el algoritmo diagn\u00f3stico del manejo de pacientes con hepatitis c realizado en paralelo con la detecci\u00f3n de anticuerpos anti-vhc en donantes de tejido,  pacientes hemodializados y poblaci\u00f3n en general.            abstract   the hepatitis c virus is the leading cause of chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, representing the first indication for liver transplantation. The clinical spectrum of the disease is very broad ranging from spontaneously resolving acute hepatitis to the development of liver cirrhosis, showing a high rate of progression to chronicity. Four virological markers are used for the clinical management of patients with this disease: anti-hcv antibodies, hcv rna, hcv genotype and hcv core antigen. Detection of hcv core antigen is currently performed in few laboratories as the considered best performing technique is still under evaluation (architect hcv ag, abbott diagnostics). Our aim was to evaluate this newly developed assay. 300 serum samples from patients with at least one request for hcv viral load were selected (cobas amplipred\/ cobas taqman, roche diagnostics) to carry out this new technique. Data was collected in an excel database and statistically analyzed using spss (18.0) program. The evaluated technique has a sensitivity of 89% and a specificity of 98%. Positive and negative  predictive value were 98% and 91%, probability coefficient can be used to predict the probability of being infected after the test. We observed an excellent correlation between viral load and hcv core antigen. We can conclude that the architect hvc ag assay can be added to the diagnostic algorithm in the management of hepatitis c infected patients, when conducted in parallel with the detection of anti-vhc
