Para ello, fue necesario la puesta a punto de una metodolog\u00eda anal\u00edtica que permitiese la extracci\u00f3n de los pigmentos, as\u00ed como, la identificaci\u00f3n y cuantificaci\u00f3n de estos compuestos (t\u00e9cnicas cromatogr\u00e1ficas y de saponificaci\u00f3n de pigmentos).  una vez puestas a punto estas t\u00e9cnicas, se procedio a la comparaci\u00f3n de la producci\u00f3n de biomasa y cartenoides secundarios entre todas las microalgas ensayadas; haematococcus pluvialis, neochloris wimmeri, protosiphon botryoides, chlorella zofingiensis, scenedesmus vacuolatus y scotiellopsis oocystiformis. los mejores resultados se obtuvieron con la microalga haematococcus pluvialis, centr\u00e1ndose las investigaciones posteriores en esta microalga.  los estudios con h. Pluvialis llevaron a la optimizaci\u00f3n de las condiciones de cultivo para obtener c\u00e9lulas vegetativas flageladas de esta microlaga ricas en el carotenoide astaxantina.  por otro lado, se realiz\u00f3 una inducci\u00f3n y selecci\u00f3n de mutantes de esta microalga super productores de astaxantina. Se obtuvieron  dos mutantes capaces de acumular entre 1,5 y 1,7 veces m\u00e1s astaxantina que la cepa silvestre.  se estudi\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n la acumulaci\u00f3n de carotenodies en el crust\u00e1ceo artemia sp. Cuando fue alimentado con diferentes dietas de microalgas que contienen el carotenoide astaxantina en su composici\u00f3n, obteni\u00e9ndose los mejores resultados en cuanto a supervivencia y acumulaci\u00f3n de este carotenoide con dietas de h.
