Una revision de los trabajos realizados sobre este tipo de compuestos nos hace ver lo limitado que es el conocimiento sobre la quimica de estos tensioactivos. En esta tesis se estudia la sintesis de distintos esteres grasos de la d-xilosa que se diferencian en las posiciones del ester graso en lamolecula del azucar y en la longitud de la cadena grasa (c sub 12  c sub 14  c sub 16). Se han obtenido monoesteres grasos con estructuras de 5-0-acil-d-xilofuranosa  3-0-acil-d-xilopiranosa y 2-0-acil-d-xilopiranosa. Se han sintetizado diesteres grasos con estructuras de 3 5-di 0-acil-d-xilofuranosa.  la sintesis de estos compuestos se realizo mediante esterificacion de derivados de la d-xilosa convenientemente bloqueados  seguida de eliminacion de los grupos protectores. Se han sintetizado monoesteres con estructuras de 5-0-(2-bromoacil)d-xilofuranosa y 5-0-(2-acetiltioacil)-d-xilofuranosa. Se han preparado derivados de monoesteres grasos con estructura de 5-0-acil-3-0-(3-carboxipropanoil)-1 2-0-isopropiliden-alfa-d-xilofuranosa. Los nuevos compuestos se caracterizan por su analisis elemental punto de fusion  poder rotatorio  movilidad cromatografica y espectroscopias infrarroja y elevado1 h-rmn.
