La tesis que se mantiene es la de que hume concibio la metafisica como ciencia de la naturaleza humana  lo que quiere decir:  como reflexion acerca del fundamento de las creencias teorico-practicas propias del vulgo o sentido comun.Y que su resultado mas original fue mostrar que los presupuestos de esta reflexion metafisica  si es que se quiere evitar el sin-sentido  deben ser los presupuestos realistas del propio vulgo; presupuestos que  no obstante no pueden fundarse en razon.
