Su funcion fisiologica no es conocida. Los resultados obtenidos en esta tesis indican que la afp se encuentra en el interior del cerebro de rata en desarrollo  en concentraciones importantes  como consecuencia de su captacion a partir del plasma. Las alteraciones nutritivas neonatales modifican los niveles sericos de afp y albumina pero no sus correspondientes niveles cerebrales. El hipotiroidismo neonatal disminuye los niveles sericos de afp  sin cambios significativos en los niveles cerebrales. El hipertiroidismo provoca una drastica reduccion y desaparicion temprana de la afp plasmatica y cerebral. Asimismo  altera la microheterogeneidad molecular de la afp  debida a su composicion en azucares.  la sintesis de afp en la rata se mantiene elevada durante los 8-12 primeros dias postnatales. Durante este mismo periodo  la vida media de la proteina (38-48h) es significativamente inferior a la encontrada en el adulto (24h).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Datos acad\u00e9micos de la tesis
