La estructura del trabajo se articula sobre la base de un primer capitulo introductorio, donde se analiza el metodo de las generaciones, su aplicacion a la del noventa y ocho y el ambiente artistico en el que se desarrollo. A continuacion, cuatro capitulos dedicados respectivamente a unamuno, azorin, baroja y maeztu, donde se estudian sus ideas y el reflejo que las mismas tuvieron en sus opiniones sobre estetica y arte.  finalmente, un capitulo sintetizador donde se trata de descubrir la existencia de una generacion del 98 mas amplia, multidisciplinar, en la que los aspectos relacionados con la pintura juegan un papel
