Aunque casi la totalidad del lodo fue retirado durante los 4 meses siguientes, todavia se encuentra entre un 0.1 i un 5% en peso de lodo en el suelo, constituyendo una fuente potencial de contaminaci\u00f3n. en esta tesis se caracteriza el lado y sus productos de meteorizacion, se obtiene la ley cinetica de disolucion del lodo y de la pirita en funcion del ph y de la [o 2(aq)]; se plantea un mecanismo de disolucion para la pirita; se estudia la disolucion de los sulfuros minoritarios, el comportamiento de los elementos traza y la influencia del suelo en la velocidad de disoluci\u00f3n del lodo y en la concentracion de contaminantes en las aguas; se determinan los procesos de atenuacion de la contaminacion mas importates y se propone un modelo quimico conceptual que sirve para calibrar un modelo de transporte reactivo y predecir la evoluci\u00f3n del sistema en escenarios realistas.  el lodo es un solido rico en pirita pero con peque\u00f1as cantidades de esfalerita, galena y calcopirita as\u00ed como cantidades significativas de elementos contaminantes (as, sb, co, cd i tl). Tiene un tama\u00f1o de grano muy fino y una area bet de 1.4+-0.2 m2 g-1 y una geometrica de 0.26+-0.03 m2 g-1. La disolucion de la pirita, con una dependencia de 0.5 en la [o2(aq)], es el principal proceso que se da. Se ha propuesto un mecanismo de disolucion donde el paso limitante es la oxidacion de sulfuro a sulfato despues de la adsorci\u00f3n de o2 en la superficie.  la disolucion de carbonatos mantiene el ph cercano a 7.5, y favorece la precipitacion de hidr\u00f3xidos de fe y al. Los elementos minoritarios se retienen por coprecipitacion o adsorci\u00f3n en hidr\u00f3xidos o filosilicatos. En ausencia de carbonatos, la disoluci\u00f3n de silicatos no neutraliza la acidez generada por la oxidacion del lodo y el ph decrece hasta 2.
