El objetivo ha sido se\u00f1alar y comprender las similitudes y diferencias que ofrecen estos dos cationes a la hora de interaccionar con aminoacidos comunmente presentes en proteinas. Cuatro grupos de aminoacidos han sido considerados: los amino acidos acidos (aspartato y glutamato) los amino acidos derivados de los amino acidos(asparagina y glutamina), los amino acidos que contienen azufre (cisteina y metionina) y por ultimo, amino acidos que contienen grupos aromaticos (fenilalanina, tirosina, y triptofano). Estos estudios pueden ser relevantes para entender la toxicidad que presenta el al+3 en sistemas vivos. Para todos los compuestos se determinaron la geometria, la energia de enlace, cargas atomicas y una variedad de propiedades moleculares, utilizando para ello diversos metodos mecanico-cuanticos. Asi mismo, la naturaleza del enlace entre el cation y el ligando es discutida de acuerdo a la teoria topologica de la densidad electronica (analisis de bader) y la teoria del orbital de enlace natural (natural bond orbital).
