Se ha observado un nivel del mar residual  en dos bandas de frecuencia bien determinadas. En la primera de ellas  frecuencias semidiurnas  se demuestra que la energia residual es de origen interactivo no lineal  y por tanto tiene un caracter fuertemente local. En la segunda  bajas frecuencias  el origen es atmosferico  presion y viento y se estudian las relaciones existentes entre estos factores y el nivel del mar.
