La presencia de actividad ureasa ha sido analizada en rhizobium leguminosarum bv viciae upm791, encontrando valores de 300 mu.Mg protein-1 en c\u00e9lulas vegetativas. Niveles m\u00e1s bajos de actividad (ca. 100 mu.Mg protein-1) han sido encontrados en bacteroides inducidos por la misma cepa en guisante. El an\u00e1lisis de secuencia de una regi\u00f3n de adn de aproximadamente 9 kb ha permitido identificar los genes estructurales (urea, ureb y urec), genes accesorios (ured, uree, uref y ureg), y 5 orfs (orf3, orf5, orf6, orf8 y orf9) codificantes para prote\u00ednas de funci\u00f3n desconocida. Tres orfs (orf3, orf5 y orf6) corresponden a orfs hom\u00f3logas de la agrupaci\u00f3n g\u00e9nica de la ureasa de snorhizobium meliloti.Orf9 codifica para una potencial prote\u00edna transmembrana con un dominio c-terminal de tipo ggdef. Un mutante en orf9 expresa niveles normales de actividad ureasa en cultivos celulares. Uree, una de las prote\u00ednas accesorias, muestra una regi\u00f3n rica en histidinas caracter\u00edsticas de prote\u00ednas de uni\u00f3n a n\u00edquel. un mutante afectado en uree recupera parcialmente su actividad en respuesta a la adici\u00f3n de n\u00edquel al medio de crecimiento.  experimentos llevados a cabo con la finalidad de estudiar la complementaci\u00f3n cruzada entre prote\u00ednas que unen niquel para la s\u00edntesis de ureasa e hidrogenasa (uree and hypb, respectivamente) indican que estas prote\u00ednas no son funcionalmente intercambiables en
