La teoria se basa en un desarrollo en serie de fourier de las matrices de rotacion de wigner de primer y de segundo orden. Se emplea ampliamente la teoria de las funciones elipticas. Se consideran la rotacion libre y la difusion rotacional extendida. La teoria se aplica a todo tipo de moleculas trompo-asimetricas  obteniendose resultados excelentes en tiempo de calculo y precision.
