En la arteria carotida de cobayo preincubada con (3h)noradrenalina, los agonistas muscarinicos, acetilcolina (1-50 um), carbacol (1-10um) y mcn-a-343(1-50um) aumentaron de forma concentracion-dependiente la liberacion de tritio inducida por estimulacion electrica. Sin embargo, concentraciones menores de acetilcolina (0,05 y 0,1 um), carbacol (0,05-0,5 um) y mcn-a-343 (0,01-0,5 um) redujeron debilmente dicha liberacion. Fentolamina (1 um) potencio la respuesta inhibidora reduciendo el efecto facilitador provocado por acetilcolina, mientras que hexametonio (300 um) no modifico ni el efecto inhibidor, ni el facilitador de la liberacion. Antagonistas de receptores muscarinicos desplazaron hacia la derecha ambos efectos. El orden de potencia fue: atropina pirencepina p-fluoro-hexahidroxi-siladifenidol _ metoctramina, para el efecto facilitador y atropina metoctramina &#8211; af-dx 116 pirencepina p-fluoro-hexahidroxi-siladifenidol &#8211; metoctramina, para el efecto inhibidor de acetilcolina en presencia de fentolamina. Asimismo, acetilcolina (0,01 -10 um) indujo respuestas vasodilatadoras dependientes de endotelio, que se inhibieron en presencia de antagonistas muscarinicos. El orden de potencia fue: atropina p-fluoro-hexahidroxi-siladifenidol pirencepina metoctramina. Tambien se analizo la accion que sobre las respuestas vasodilatadoras endoteliales tenian los inhibidores o bloqueantes de la no sintasa, l-name y oxhihemoglobina, observandose que estos agentes redujeron, pero no abolieron dicha relajacion. Estos resultados sugieren que 1) en las terminaciones nerviosas de la arteria carotida de cobayo existen receptores muscarinicos facilitadores (m1) e inhibidores (m2) de
