Se han descrito tres clases de rnr; i, ii y iii, atendiendo a su estructura, metal, radical y cofactores necesarios para la cat\u00e1lisis.  en este trabajo se han estudiado las tres clases de rnr bacterianas desde el punto de vista enzim\u00e1tico, gen\u00e9tico y evolutivo.  las rnr de clase iii (nrddg) s\u00f3lo son activas en condiciones de anaerobi\u00f3sis estricta  estudi\u00e1ndose en escherichia coli y lactococcus lactis (li). En ambos casos, mutantes para los genes que codifican para la rnr de esta clase (nrdd y nrdg) son inviables cuando las c\u00e9lulas crecen en condiciones de anaerobi\u00f3sis estricta. La sobreexpresi\u00f3n y purificaci\u00f3n de las prote\u00ednas nrddg de ll ha puesto de manifiesto que la reacci\u00f3n de reducci\u00f3n de los ntp se lleva a cabo en dos etapas. Por primera vez seha observado que la uni\u00f3n del atp sigue una cin\u00e9tica sigmoidal, mostrando un alto grado de cooperatividad entre los dos lugares involucrados en la regulaci\u00f3n alost\u00e9rica de este enzima.  las rnr de la clase ii (nrd) se han pruficado y secuenciado sus genes en bacterias filogen\u00e9ticamente primitivas como thermotoga maritima y deinococcus radiodurans (dr), presentando estas prote\u00ednas todos los aa involucrados en su regulaci\u00f3n alost\u00e9rica y actividad catal\u00edtica. Postulamos que ha de exisitr una gran relaci\u00f3n estructural entre las prote\u00ednas de esta clase con las de la clase i. El gen nrdj de dr presenta un inte\u00edna en la porci\u00f3n n-terminal que es procesa durante la traducci\u00f3n del gen.  en los a\u00f1os 80 se caracteriz\u00f3 paracialmente la rnr de corynebacterium ammoniaagnes asign\u00e1ndola a una nueva clase, ya que su actividad depend\u00eda delilon manganeso.
