El m\u00e9todo de referencia empleado fue la arteriograf\u00eda pulmonar, t\u00e9cnica m\u00e1s exacta en el diagn\u00f3stico de esta enfermedad. Se estudiaron 66 pacientes consecutivos con sospecha cl\u00ednica de tromboembolismo pulmonar a los que se les hab\u00eda solicitado una arteriograf\u00eda pulmonar. A todos ellos se les practicaron ambas pruebas, en un intervalo de tiempo inferior a 24 horas. Cada arteriograf\u00eda pulmonar fue valorada por un radiol\u00f3go vascular experto y cada tomograf\u00eda computarizada helicoidal por dos radi\u00f3logos tor\u00e1cicos, expertos e independientes. Los tres observadores desconco\u00edan el resultado de las restantes pruebas diagn\u00f3sticas realizadas al paciente. Se determinaron la validez, seguridad y reproducibilidad de la t\u00e9cnica en t\u00e9rminos de sensibilidad, especificidad, valores predictivos positivos y negativo y acuerdo inter-observador.  empleando un m\u00e9todo homog\u00e9neo y reproducible, este trabajo demuestra que la tomograf\u00eda computarizada helicoidal, t\u00e9cnica no invasiva y disponible en casi todos los hospitales, es v\u00e1lida y segura en el diagn\u00f3stico del tromboembolismo pulmonar, por lo que podr\u00eda jugar un papel en el algoritmo diagn\u00f3stico de \u00e9sta enfermedad e incluso llegar a sustituir,
