Para ello, hemos utilizado un modelo experimental de higado aislado y perfundido que permite analizar de forma continua diversas respuestas funcionales de tipo energetico, metabolico, ionotropico y vascular. Este tipo de estudio nos ha permitido determinar que existen patrones especificos de respuestas asociadas a una determinada perturbacion hormonal. Paralelamente, hemos determinado la actividad funcional de los alfa1-adrenorreceptores analizando la capacidad de los agentes alfa1-adrenergicos de inducir un aumento en los niveles de ca2+ libre citosolico, de estimular la actividad del intercambiador na+\/h+ y de promover la traslocacion de proteina quinasa c (pkc) hacia la membrana plasmatica en suspensiones de hepatocitos.  nuestros resultados indican que la funcion tiroidea modula la sensibilidad tisular a la activacion alfa1-adrenergica. Sin embargo, no todas las respuestas hepaticas muestran la misma susceptibilidad a variaciones en los niveles circulantes de hormonas tiroideas.  mientras que la activacion de respiracion y eflujo sostenido de ca2+ o la estimulacion del metabolismo de hidratos de carbono dependen de la funcion tiroidea, el efecto vasopresor o la activacion de pkc o del intercambiador na+\/h+ no se ven afectados por el estado tiroideo. Por otra parte, hemos podido comprobar que la hormona tiroidea l-t3 puede jugar un papel fisiologicamente relevante modulando, de forma aguda, la respuesta hepatica a la activacion alfa1-adrenergica. La rapidez con que se instauran estos efectos de l-t3 sugiere que la hormona tiroidea actua interaccionando con elementos extranucleares.
