En la primera, se exponen los preliminares metodologicos necesarios para la investigacion: el problema de la evidencia, la reduccion trascendental y la intencionalidad. En la segunda, se trata de mostrar el problema peculiar que plantea la percepcion inadecuada (frente a la adecuada), y de criticar las teorias que la convierten en un tipo de imaginacion o signo. En especial, se critica la \u00abteoria de la imagenes\u00bb, centrandose la discursion en las tesis sostenidas por el primer husserl. Esta critica constituye una manera directa de mostrar la dificultad intrinseca de obtener una buena teoria sobre la percepcion inadecuada; teoria que se intenta construir en las tres partes siguientes de la tesis, aunque la investigacion se limita a la percepcion visual. La tercera parte trata el problema desde la inmanencia: conciencia interna del tiempo, sintesis pasivas y cuasi-espacialidad del campo visual. La cuarta parte analiza el paso de la inmanencia de la conciencia a la trascendencia del mundo desde dos puntos de vista en un estudio de corte clasico se hace un analisis de la continuidad del espacio objetivo (frente a la mera contiguidad del cuasi-espacio visual), y en un estudio-propiamente fenomenologico se describe con detalle la constitucion de la cosa objetiva como un todo tridimensional (frente a la \u00abbidimensionalidad\u00bb del cuasi-espacio). Con ello se logra una explicacion de la percepcion inadecuada que no vuelve a caer en la teoria de las imagenes.
