La produccion de lactato se incrementa con la concentracion de glucosa hasta 3 mm mientras que la oxidacion se incrementa 4 veces cuando la concentracion de glucosa aumenta de 3 a 20 mm. Los resultados indican que la produccion de lactato es el principal producto final de la glicolisis catalizada por la hexoquinasa de bajo km. Se estudio la capacidad de regular la fosforilacion de glucosa por diferentes sustratos mitocondriales. Unos sustratos (d-gliceraldehido y metilpiruvato) producen un descenso de un 30% de la fosforilacion de la glucosa, probablemente por la produccion mitocondrial de atp, a traves de la inhibicion en cadena de la pfk y hexoquinasa. Otros sustratos (piruvato, glutamina, leucina) no modifican la velocidad de fosforilacion de la glucosa. El estudio de la dependencia de su velocidad de oxidacion mitocondrial (sensibilidad a rotenona) con respecto a la fosforilacion oxidativa (sensibilidad a la inhibicion por oligamicina) nos llevo a concluir que el acoplamiento entre ambos procesos es selectivo, depende del sustrato oxidado por las celulas b.
