Seneca hace suya la evidencia fundamental de la etica estoica: lo unico bueno es lo honesto; en torno a esta idea se puede articular su pensamiento etico. En primer lugar, se estudia el sentido analogico del termino bonum, distinguiendo el verdadero bien de lo que se le parece. Se analiza la naturaleza humana para determinar los rasgos de lo honestum, que es el bien propio del hombre. Tambien se aborda el papel de la experiencia moral y de la conciencia en el discernimiento de lo bueno. En el cuarto capitulo se analizan las definiciones que ofrece seneca acerca del bonum, y se considera cual es el contenido del \u00abnaturam sequi\u00bb. A continuacion se estudia la virtud.
