Mediante el uso de indices de frecuencia estadistica de los temas y topicos habituales en este tipo de pintura y el analisis iconografico concreto de aquellos cuadros que se han considerado mas relevantes y significativos se reconstruye el transfondo ideologico de las grandes series de iconografia historica impulsadas por el estado espa\u00f1ol en el periodo que va desde la tercera decada del siglo xvii a la ultima del siglo xix (salon de reinos del palacio del buen retiro, palacio real de Madrid, concursos de la academia de bellas artes de san fernando, exposiciones de la academia, exposiciones nacionales de bellas artes, palacio del senado y palacio del congreso) asi como su repercusion en la mitolog\u00eda colectiva (reproduccion en grabados, presencia de estos mismos temas en otros medios de comunicacion, presencia en la vida cotidiana, etc.). El estado espa\u00f1ol lleva a cabo durante este periodo un intento consciente de moldear una precisa y concreta imagen del pasado de la nacion, la que se plasma en la pintura de historia que, en
