Su primera obra de 1498, fue el relieve del camino del calvario, en la girola de la catedral de burgos. Desde entonces desarrollo una carrera fructifera para los condestables de castilla, reyes, obispos y mercaderes en obras tan importantes como la capilla de los condestables (catedral de burgos), el retablo de la capilla real de granada y la silleria de coro de la catedral de toledo. Su tecnica de la escultura le permitio una originalidad tal que de las fuentes creativas mas diversas elabora un lenguaje personal, tan distante de los maestros del gotico como de los del renacimiento. Mantuvo tres talleres abiertos simultaneamente en burgos, toledo y pe\u00f1aranda de duero.  ademas, para realizar sus trabajos dispersos por ciudades de espa\u00f1a, creo talleres autonomos. Existe, pues, un complejo entramado de trabajos y artistas que deben ser considerados en un segundo termino, como algo independiente del dise\u00f1o.
