enorme interes en los problemas de contaminacion de las aguas derivados de las explotaciones mineras e industriales.En este trabajo se utiliza un recurso natural \u00abla bentonita\u00bb para eliminar de ciertos vertidos algunos metales pesados como son el cobre, cobalto, cadmio, zinc, niquel o mercurio.Primero se caracterizan los materiales arcillosos de la zona de amotape.En una segunda parte se realizan experiencias con estos materiales, a nivel de laboratorio, con el fin de determinar sus propiedades de intercambio cationio y valorar asi, la capacidad de estas sustancias para retener los citados metales pesados.Se estudia la influencia que tienen en el proceso de adsorcion variables como: ph, temperatura, tiempo, cantidad de bentonita, fuerza ionica, la presencia de otros iones o sustancias como calcio, cloro, benceno, fenol, aedt que se encuentran en muchas ocasiones en los efluentes industriales lixiviados.Finalizando el trabajo con un estudio de regeneracion de
