En una estirpe de este genero aislada de una planta endemica de canarias (tagasaste) se describen las rutas metabolicas. Como resultado se obtiene una bacteria con una sola via para degradar las hexosas, la via de las pentosas fosfato. La 6-fosfogluconato dh ligada a nad es purificada y caracterizada demostrando ser descarboxilante sobre su sustrato. Este resultado es confirmado en la estirpe tipo de bradyrhizobium, b.  japonicum, usda 110 por lo que demostramos la existencia de la via en este genero bacteriano. Asimismo la via de entner-doudoroff es descartada en el trabajo como la principal via de degradacion de hexosas como se venia admitiendo hasta ahora en las revisiones acerca del metabolismo del
