En el primer capitulo se delinea el panorama historico de las instituciones de gobierno, y de las instituciones religiosas que dieron origen a las representaciones plasticas de cristo crucificado.  se analiza, en el segundo capitulo, la herencia iconografica y teologica que recibieron los escultores al plasmar el tema del crucificado. Las obras se situan en el marco significativo de sus funciones liturgicas o piadosas, cuyo contenido se ve potenciado por los titulos y advocaciones.  en el tercer capitulo se profundiza en el aspecto escultorico, propiamente dicho: materiales, tecnicas y restauraciones; evolucion estilistica, nomina y biografia de los autores documentados. Destaca la presencia de importantes obras medievales, renacentistas, barrocas y contemporaneas, procedentes en su mayoria, del ambito cultural y artistico sevillano, aunque tambien hay obras originadas en castilla, filipinas, austria, flandes, italia y galicia. Los autores y circulos artisticos mas notables son pedro millan, roque balduque, bautista vazquez, jeronimo hernandez, juan de oviedo, lopez bueno, roldan; pinto soldan, julio vicent; abascal, alvarez duarte, barbero, carmona, castillo lastrucci, cerquera, gabriel cuadrado, chaveli, gomez del castillo, lemus, leon ortega, moreno daza, orce, ortega bru, rivera.
