Con el uso clinico de esta tecnica se ha podido definir la presencia de un patron caracteristico, que recurre aproximadamente cada 24 horas y que parece estar ligado al ritmo vigilia-sue\u00f1o.  dado que la ausencia de descenso nocturno en los valores de presion arterial se correlaciona con el da\u00f1o en organo diana (hipertrofia ventricular izquierda, microalbuminuria&#8230;) Y probablemente denuncie la presencia de algunas formas de hipertension secundaria, se buscan metodos capaces de analizar y cuantificar las peculiaridades de el perfil de pa.  en el estudio que se presenta en este trabajo, se ensayan varios cocientes de dispersion (cd) que estiman las diferencias entre el valor medio de cada una de las horas y el valor medio de todas las lecturas de las 24 horas.  estos cocientes pueden utilizarse para los valores sistolicos (pas) o diastolicos (pad), pudiendo calcularse para las 24 horas o para cualquier otro periodo temporal (ma\u00f1ana, tarde o noche en nuestro estudio) que se establezca.  se estudian dos grupos no seleccionados de hipertensos esenciales (n=20) e hipertensos secundarios por sindrome de cushing (n=17), habiendose identificado una disminucion marcada de estos cocientes (fundamentalmente cdpas y cdpasn) en el grupo de hipertensos secundarios, por carecer estos de descenso en los valores nocturnos de pa.
