Dentro de los posibles conjuntos limites de un sistema dinamico, nos interesan los comportamientos observables, en concreto las orbitas periodicas. Un objetivo primordial sera delimitar, en el espacio de parametros, las diferentes regiones donde ocurre el comportamiento periodico.  sus fronteras daran lugar a bifurcaciones. De ahi que el estudio de bifurcaciones sea otro objetivo primordial.  las bifurcaciones muy degeneradas nos daran informacion tanto de las regiones y sus fronteras donde ocurre comportamiento periodico, como de las bifurcaciones de menor degeneracion.
