Ambos cdnas muestran una elevada homolog\u00eda con otras secuencias de s-adenosilmetionina sintasas. El analisis genomico muestra la existencia de dos genes que codifican la s-adenosilmetionina sintasa en guisante. A pesar de tratarse de un gen constitutivo la expresion de estos genes esta regulada a nivel de tejido y de estado de desarrollo.  durante el desarrollo de los ovarios polimizados tiene lugar la induccion de la expresion de estos genes coincidiendo con el proceso de diferenciacion de las celulas del endocarpo, a nivel de los cuales se han detectado los los mayores acumulaciones de mensajeros de estos genes. Lo cual esta de acuerdo con la implicacion de la s-adenosilmetionina en el proceso de biosintesis de pared. A partir del analisis individual de la expresion de ambos genes, se ha comprobado que la induccion observada en estos ovarios polinizados se debe a la acumulacion de mensajeros del gen sams1.  a nivel de ovarios parterocarpicos solo se observa induccion de sams1 en los ovarios generados por aplicacion de auxinas y el patron de expresion es identico al encontrado en frutos polinizados.
