El modo de accion de estas proteinas es muy complejo y esta siendo actualmente establecido. En este trabajo se ha realizado un estudio del mecanismo de toxicidad de las proteinas del grupo cryiii frente al escarabajo de la patata. Ademas, se han analizado cepas resistentes a bacillus thuringiensis, en dos insectos plaga, heliothis virescens y plutella xylostella, estableciendose en el primer de los casos, el mecanismo de resistencia y en el segundo de los casos, el modelo de herencia para la resistencia al insecticida.  otro objetivo del trabajo ha sido la caracterizacion de la proteina receptora para las icps del grupo cryia en el insecto manduca sexta. Se ha identificado una proteina de un peso molecular de 210 kda, que puede unir las tres toxinas del grupo cryia.
