Estos se estudian mediante espectroscopia uv-vis epr y a partir de medidas magneticas, aunque es la resonancia magnetica nuclear de paramagneticos la que proporciona mayor informacion. Los espectros de rmn de proton de estos derivados metalicos presentan patrones caracteristicos segun las propiedades del centro metalico. Asi las azurinas silvestres de ni (ii) y co (ii) de las bacterias pseudomonas aeruginosa y alcaligenes denitrificans dan lugar a espectos muy similares, que son a su vez diferentes de los espectros correspondientes al mutante m121q. La estructura de rayos x de la azurina de ni (ii) muestra un centro metalico tetraedrico en el que la gly45 aparece claramente coordinada y la met121 queda posiblemente fuera del entorno de coordinacion.
