Los sumatorios se xtienden a todos los angulos dihedros (k) de cada conformero y a todos los conformeros (i).  el proceso consiste en obtener, inicialmente, unas constantes de rotacion (kxy) utilizando una serie de sustancias cuyas rotaciones opticas moleculares son conocidas, a partir de los angulos dihedros y la energia de sus conformeros. Estos datos conformacionales se obtienen mediante calculos de mecanica molecular. Una vez obtenidas las constantes de rotacion, estas se utilizan para obtener los valores teoricos de rotacion optica molecular, los cuales son comparados con los datos
