Las de nivel bajo incluyen el tratamiento y filtrado de imagenes. Las del nivel medio, la extraccion de caracteristicas. Y las de nivel alto la interpretacion de la escena y los procedimientos de actuacion.  esta tesis se centra en los niveles bajo y medio considerando las caracteristicas que requieren los equipos en tiempo real. Se ha desarrollado un circuito segmentado, basado en componentes discretos y plds, que permite el tratamiento de imagenes a ritmo de video (50 o 60 tramas por segundo en los formatos pal y ntsc respectivamente). Tambien se ha desarrollado un algoritmo que permite la extraccion progresiva de los contornos en imagenes bidimensionales, basado en un modelo de regiones con nivel de gris uniforme. Despues de un breve transitorio de adecuacion a la escena, los contornos se obtienen tambien a ritmo de video.  la solucion propuesta para el tratamiento de imagenes supone un circuito mas compacto que otros equipos comerciales lo que implica una reduccion de costes.
