Estas dos cuencas ocupan una superficie importante dentro de la comunidad foral; abarcan gran numero de tipos climaticos y litologicos, desde los territorios hiperhumedos ricos en yesos del sur. Esta variabilidad viene reflejada en la sectorizacion biogeografica, que incluye 4 sectores, pertenecientes a dos regiones. Eurosiberiana y mediterranea.  el estudio de la flora nos ha permitido elaborar un catalogo floristico en el que se recogen un total de 1.027 taxones, de los cuales 11 constituyen nuevas citas para la provincia. El estudio de la vegetacion ha sido llevado a cabo con la ayuda de metodos multivariantes y, en el caso de las comunidades acuaticas, datos fisioquimicos del agua. Se ha utilizado un total de 1.073 inventarios, algunos de ellos procedentes de la bibliografia de comunidades edafohigrofilas y edafohalofilas, de ecosistemas loticos y
