La adsorcion de iones metalicos a las envueltas celulares es muy rapida y empleando bloqueantes especificos se ha comprobado que los grupos carboxilo son los que tienen un papel mas importante en la adsorcion de metal. Despues de su acondicionamiento alcalino, la biomasa ha sido inmovilizada por atrapamiento en el interior de esferas obtenidas por polimerizacion de resina epoxi o insolubilizacion de polisulfona. Se ha caracterizado el tama\u00f1o de las esferas por analisis de imagen y se ha observado su estructura por microscopia electronica de barrido. Las esferas de resina epoxi mostraban una distribucion interna de los agregados de biomasa mas homogenea y eran menos porosas que las obtenidas con polisulfona. La biomasa inmovilizada en ambos soportes es capaz de adsorber iones metalicos, pero la capacidad y cinetica de adsorcion es distinta en ambos casos y depende del tama\u00f1o, grado de hidratacion y concentracion de biomasa empleada. Se ha caracterizado la cinetica de adsorcion de los diversos iones metalicos por biomasa atrapada en ambos tipos de resina, tanto en ensayos discontinuos como en reactores de lecho fijo y agitado por aire.
