Sin embargo, la existencia de diferentes actividades hidroliticas compartimentalizadas subcelularmente, junto con los datos que muestran una respuesta de la actividad esterasa frente a distintos estados metabolicos, abren la posibilidad de una modulacion del almacen de esteres de colesterol por estas enzimas. Una variacion en la entrada de acido graso, producto y sustrato a la vez de esterasas y acat, puede alterar sus actividades.  la formacion de glicerolipidos no solo constituyen una forma de almacenamiento energetico, sino que es un proceso esencial para el mantenimiento de las estructuras celulares.  los fosfolipidos con su especifica composicion hidrocarbonada, junto con el colesterol, modulan las porpiedades fisicas de las membranas, estando asi sujetas a alteracion las estructuras porteicas que contienen. De este modo una enzima de membrana puede ver modificada su actividad por un cambio en la composicion lipidia de su entorno.  las vldl son particulas lipoproteicas sintetizadas por el higado y secretadas para suministrar sustratos energeticos al resto de los tejidos.
