En particular se ha abordado la perspectiva hardware.  la revision de las implementaciones hardware que han aparecido en la literatura para calcular la transformada wavelet nos confirmo la inexistencia de sistemas que permitan detectar contornos mediante la transformada wavelet para imagenes a velocidad de video. Esto nos condujo al objetivo de desarrollar un asic capaz de calcular la transformada wavelet discreta bidimensional de mallat y zhong de imagenes de 256 x 256 pixeles, con 256 niveles de gris a velocidad de video de 25 imagenes \/ s.  en el capitulo 3 se abordan cuestiones previas al dise\u00f1o del hardware, pero de fundamental importancia a la hora de implementar cualquier sistema de procesamiento digital de se\u00f1ales. Se trata del estudio de los aspectos aritmeticos, como la seleccion del formato numerico y el analisis de los errores que introduce la cuantizacion de los datos, coeficientes y operaciones aritmeticas. Se propone y desarrolla un modelo estadistico de los errores de cuantizacion, y a continuacion se corroboran los resultados teoricos mediante una comparacion con los resultados experimentales obtenidos por simulacion.  en el capitulo 4 se presenta el dise\u00f1o del asic objeto de nuestro trabajo. Esto constituye la aportacion fundamental de la tesis doctoral. Se hace especial incidencia en el proceso de dise\u00f1o de alto nivel, que esta basado en una metodolog\u00eda top-down. El dise\u00f1o del asic en standard cell, pasando por la descripcion rtl expresada en vhdl sintetizable, hasta llegar a la representacion a nivel de puertas de la tecnolog\u00eda de es2 se puede considerar la aportacion mas relevante de esta tesis.
