Se ha generado un mapa fisico del cromosoma, utilizando un sistema descendente, y sobre el han sido localizados varios genes homologos y heterologos.  tomando el genoma de thiobacillus ferrooxidans atcc 21834 como punto de referencia, se ha realizado un analisis comparativo genomico con otros thiobacillus, constituyendo este un estudio taxonomico basado en los patrones de macrorrestriccion obtenidos utilizando la electroforesis de campo pulsado.  por otro lado, se han realizado estudios sobre la sintesis diferencial de proteinas de dos cepas de thiobacillus ferrooxidans, en funcion de
